Electric vehicles are changing the way that used cars are valued and sold, upending a model that has traditionally relied on odometer and condition over the last 75 years. The way that shoppers research and buy an EV is inherently different because much of the value is tied to the battery. Unlike a combustion engine, which has major milestones, an EV’s long-term value is maintained daily, based on the unique charging habits and battery management of its owner. Jared Kalfus (Black Book President) and Julie Woo (Recurrent/Head of Product) discuss how vehicle and residual valuations will evolve in an electric world.
